Al Jazeera America Wins Two 2015 Gracie Awards

“Talk to Al Jazeera” and “Ferguson Talks Politics” win 2015 Gracie Awards Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation

NEW YORK – (May 19, 2015) – Al Jazeera America is pleased to announce that AJAM journalists Stephanie Sy and Jenifer Fenton will accept two prestigious Gracie Awards for the channel’s “Talk to Al Jazeera” interview with Gloria Steinem and the digital team’s multi-platform coverage of unrest over a police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. The journalism awards, sponsored by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, recognize exemplary programming created by, for and about women, and will be presented at the 40th Annual Gracies Awards Gala today, May 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

Executive producer Jenifer Fenton, producer Kristin Myers, host Stephanie Sy and editor Carlos Arboleda received the award for Outstanding Interview Program or Feature for their 2014 interview program, "Gloria Steinem Talks to Al Jazeera.” The 80-year old feminist icon sat down with Al Jazeera America’s Stephanie Sy for a wide-ranging interview that covered the feminist revolution today, reproductive freedom, Hillary Clinton’s Presidential ambitions and more. Digital journalist Jamie Tarabay and photographer Matt Eich received a Gracie Award for Outstanding Original Online Programming- Audio for “Ferguson Talks Politics.” The award-winning piece features contributions from digital interactive producer Alex Newman, deputy photo editor Vaughn Wallace and online features editor Katherine Lanpher. Published on Al Jazeera America’s website on October 28, 2014, “Ferguson Talks Politics” is a multimedia reporting project which uses audio stories to illuminate the voices of Ferguson, Missouri, after the city was rocked by unrest and violent protests. In 2014, Al Jazeera America received a Gracie Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature for America Tonight’s segment “Fists of Fury” by producer Reed Lindsay.
