PRESS RELEASE

Natasha Ghoneim Named Al Jazeera America Correspondent in Miami

NEW YORK – (July 30, 2013) – Al Jazeera America, the new American news channel that will launch on Aug. 20, today announced that Natasha Ghoneim will become the first correspondent in the channel’s new Miami bureau.

Al Jazeera America will be a news, lifestyle and investigative journalism channel that will offer the U.S. audience objective, fact-based and in-depth news focused on issues that are important to everyday Americans. The Miami bureau is one of 12 that the news channel will open in cities across the country.

Marcy McGinnis, Al Jazeera America’s senior vice-president, newsgathering, said that a Miami bureau is critical for Al Jazeera America. “Miami is a city rich in economic, social and cultural stories. Our team will cover the news and help provide national context and perspective on the important issues facing the greater Miami area.”

With nearly two decades in journalism, Ghoneim worked as a general assignment reporter covering local and national breaking news for stations across the country including KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, WDIV-TV in Detroit and KHOU-TV in Houston. Ghoneim also produced foreign affairs stories at Blouin News and reported breaking news for NY1 in New York City. She also reported for Al Ahram Online in Cairo, Egypt.

“Natasha has extensive experience reporting on local, national and international news and events,” said McGinnis. “Her proven record of producing quality journalism will be a valuable addition to the channel.”

“I’ve reported on many local stories that not only affect what is happening in the local area, but are of interest to Americans across the country,” said Ghoneim. “With Al Jazeera America’s 12 U.S. bureaus, including Miami, we’ll be able to tell those human stories that will be of interest around the corner and around the globe."
