Winter storms help California's epic drought

This weekend's wet weather brings gallons of water to low level reservoirs

They’re calling this the storm of the decade. Whether it is or not is debatable, but one thing is certain, even after the storm, California will still be suffering from an extreme drought. Although some locations are getting hard it, on average this storm is bringing 3-6” rain to northern California. It’s also bringing high winds and snow.

According to the website, Climate Central, in order to end the drought, California would need 15- 21” of rain in one month. That’s about 5 storms of this magnitude. Even more important, the rain should come over the entire rainy season, not all at once.  In that case  28 - 49” of rain would help offset the past three year of extreme drought conditions.

To see the impact of the drought, and find out what scientists are doing about it, tune into this week’s episode of TechKnow, The New Dust Bowl, Saturday 7:30 pm
