Performance enhancements are becoming an increasingly common part of professional sports. New developments in technology and new types of drugs have enabled athletes to bypass regulations.
A variety of enhancements - in addition to drugs - have recently been developed in order to assist athletes in recovery or training.
One enhancement, the
Neurotopia machine, is used to stimulate mental function. To use it, athletes hook up to a machine and play video games with their minds. The following shows some elements the machine is able to measure.

Athletes also have the option of increasing their endurance using a
CVAC system , in which they climb into a pod which fluctuates air pressure to stimulate transitioning from high to low altitudes at rapid speeds.

Science has also influenced recovery techniques.
Cyrotherapy is a process through which
athletes 'freeze' their muscles to assist recovery.

In both a Debate.org
conversation and a
Stream Poll , many voted and contributed their reasons for supporting or opposing legalization of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). The result of the poll at the time of publication had 35% in favor of and 65% opposed to legalization.
Many who argued for legalization said that the decision was a personal one, up to athletes themselves to take the risk. Most commented on the health aspect.
@AJAMStream Those enhancers with little or no health hazards should be allowed but doses be controlled and regulated.musa
Step up your game! A lot of athletes and sports competitors are looking to 'up their game'. If they want to do this by using Performance Enhancing Drugs why not let them? It's their body and the side effects effect no one else but them!debate.org
Legalising them wont cause major harm to athletes as long as boundaries are set aside and experiments prove the safety of all peoples involved.debate.org
Others argued that legalizing PEDs would be unfair for a variety of reasons. Some cited the expense, difficulties in regulation, and possible detriment to athletes' health.
@AJAMStream No then only those who can afford them will have that competitive edge #KeepSportsNaturalVern
@balloutd @AJAMStream Most athletes use them & then clean their systems before comp, there is no practical solution at this stage.Dedrei Erasmus
PEDs should not be legal. Performance enhancing drugs do not protect the health of the athletes and make the competition unfair. Why should a person on performance enhancing drugs win over a person who is really practicing hard without using drugs?debate.org
Sport is physical activity with rules and regulations used to build character and teach life lessons. Drug in sport would defeat its purpose and aid to health risks. It creates in unfair advantage.debate.org
