The equipment for the league is provided by the New York Police Department. It was started to help build trust between the police and communities where cricket is popular. The 18 teams come mostly from the Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Caribbean communities of New York.

“Cricket is my passion, it’s more than just a sport,” said Brandon Boddhoo, 19. Boddhoo recently immigrated to the U.S. from Guyana and is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science at St. Johns University, where he is planning on joining the cricket team.

At the end of the match, won by the Dragons, New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly arrived to award the trophy.
