Despite recent growth, Colombia has some of the highest income inequality in the world. In Cartagena, two beauty pageants put a face on this wealth gap: the glitzy Miss Colombia and the local people’s pageant, in which mostly Afro-Colombian contestants represent the city’s poor neighborhoods.
