The Justice Department has opened an investigation into how Al Jazeera obtained a sealed, 124-page affidavit detailing the FBI's investigation of California State Sen. Ronald Calderon.

Calderon and his attorney, Mark Geragos, contend that prosecutors and FBI agents leaked the affidavit to the news organization.

The government rejects those claims in a 19-page statement filed in U.S. District Court in Sacramento.
