Las Vegas shooting leaves 5 dead

Ambush shooting near a Walmart store killed two police officers, one civilian; two suspects killed themselves

Two armed suspects opened fire and killed two Las Vegas police officers who were eating lunch in a pizza parlor on Sunday, then shot and killed a civilian inside a nearby Walmart store before killing themselves, police said.

The two suspects shouted, "This is a revolution" as they ambushed the uniformed patrol officers, but a motive remains under investigation, Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield told The Associated Press. He added that "we don't know anything about the suspects yet."

Hadfield said the shooting spree began late Sunday morning when a man and woman walked into CiCi's Pizza and shot two officers who were eating lunch. A woman who said she had witnessed the killings described it as an "execution-style assault" to local newspaper the Las Vegas Sun.

Hadfield said the suspects then fled to the Walmart across the street, where they shot a person inside.

Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the male suspect yelled "everyone get out" before shooting in the store. The suspects then walked to the back of the building.

According to a release from the police department, the suspects made their way to the rear of the store and exchanged gunfire with officers who had converged on the store, entering from the front and the rear.

"Minutes later, a second volley of gunshots was heard, and it is believed the female suspect shot the male suspect before turning the gun on herself," said the release.

The officers were both pronounced deceased at the UMC Trauma Center. The department identified the officers as Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31. The victim's identity hasn't been confirmed, and the suspects' names haven't been released.

Walmart employees and shoppers were taken to a nearby clothing store to be interviewed by police. The restaurant and Walmart remained closed as detectives processed evidence. McMahill said the investigation is "very complex" because it involves more than 1,000 witnesses.
