Just as in other cities across the Palestinian territories, protesters in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh are clashing with Israeli forces over Israel’s decades-long military occupation of Palestinian lands, which youths say controls and restricts nearly every aspect of their lives.
AJ+ traveled to Al-Bireh to speak with some of the Palestinian protesters, who threw stones at Israeli forces and were met with tear gas, rubber-coated steel bullets and live ammunition.
When asked what Palestinians are resisting, one protester answered: "From the day I was born, I had no future. We’re born into a prison."
About 200,000 Palestinians and 1,000 Israeli settlers live in the city, which has long been marked by bitter tensions
