'We're all one': Chapel Hill victim talks about diversity in America

'Growing up in America has been such a blessing,' Chapel Hill victim Yusor Abu-Salha said in an interview in 2014

In a conversation recorded by the storytelling project StoryCorps just last summer, Yusor Abu-Salha, a victim from the recent Chapel Hill shooting, embraces her religion and her American culture.

Abu-Salha recorded a conversation with her former elementary school teacher, Sister Jabeen, of the Al-Iman School in Raleigh, North Carolina, and speaks about diversity of the American experience:

"Growing up in America has been such a blessing. And although in some ways I do stand out, such as the hijab I wear on my head, the head covering, there are still so many ways that I feel so embedded in the fabric that is, you know, our culture. And that's the beautiful thing here is that it doesn't matter where you come from."
