The art of bank robbery

AJ+: Spanish artist Nuria Guell looks to expose unethical bank practices with the power of art

How would you rob a bank? Inspired by the 2008 financial crisis, Spanish artist Núria Güell got expert advice by writing to Jaime Giménez Arbe, a notorious bank robber serving a 47-year prison sentence. Her master plan is a piece of political art and aimed at exposing the people she believes are responsible for the Great Recession.

The plan is deposited in a safety deposit box at a bank.

"If you have money, you can buy a space of impunity," Núria Güell. "The idea was to highlight the fact that the bank doesn’t care about social or political consequences, as long as they generate profit."
