Escaping Yemen: US citizen's journey out of the conflict zone

Mokhtar Alkhanshali, who became first known Yemeni-American to get out of strife-torn country, speaks to AJ+

On April 7, 2015, Mokhtar Alkhanshali, founder of the specialty coffee company Mocha Mill, became the first Yemeni American to escape from Yemen after three weeks of aerial bombardment from a Saudi Arabia-led coalition. The U.S. government has refused to evacuate its citizens, but Alkhanshali was able to escape by boat. The 26-year-old coffee entrepreneur described Washington's policy as an abandonment of Yemeni-Americans.
