The cameras of the world are focused on Baltimore. But the story of Baltimore’s unrest didn’t start with the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died last week from injuries suffered after he was arrested.

The people of the city have been dealing with a weakened economy, a broken education system and an overbearing criminal justice system for years.
