One year after Ayotzinapa, can Mexico stop the disappearances?

AJ+ speaks to people personally affected by the disappearance of 43 Mexican students in 2014

Sept. 26 marks the one-year anniversary of what has been called one of the worst human rights violations in modern Mexican history: The disappearance and presumed death of 43 students from Iguala. The Mexican government claims that municipal police delivered the students to a local drug trafficking gang, but several independent investigations have poked holes in their story.

The disappearance and the government's response have fueled a political crisis. The 43 students have also become symbols of a much larger societal ill. Tens of thousands of other people have vanished under similar circumstances. AJ+ traveled to Iguala to learn more about the disappearances and speak to some of those who have been personally affected.
