America's silent refugee crisis

AJ Plus: Thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America are coming to the US to escape violence

Thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America are crossing into the U.S. In the months of October and November alone, at least 10,000 minors migrated across the border.

It is not just poverty the children are escaping. More than 50 percent of the children interviewed on arrival reported having suffered or been threatened with serious physical harm, according to UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Under international law, they could qualify for international protection and asylum.
