1. Iowa: Joni Ernst (R) v. Bruce Braley (D)

Ernst gained national recognition from a campaign ad claiming she grew up, “castrating hogs on an Iowa farm,” while Braley caught flack for calling the sitting Iowa senator, “a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.” This race is tight and could help swing control of the Senate.

2. Kentucky: Alison Lundergran Grimes (D) v. Mitch McConnell (R)

The pressure is on Grimes to oust President Obama’s most open detractor, while a win for McConnell may also mean a spot as Senate Majority Leader.

3. Georgia: Michelle Nunn (D) v. David Perdue (R)

Job creation and presidential associations are at the forefront of this race, with Nunn proclaiming, “I’ve spent about 45 minutes of my life with President Obama. I’ve spent seven years working for President George H.W. Bush’s Points of Light organization.” Perdue points out that Bush endorses him, and not Nunn.
