Al Jazeera America names Marc Gatto Executive Vice President for Broadcast Operations and Technology

NEW YORK – (July 23, 2013) – Al Jazeera America, the new American news channel that will launch on August 20, today announced that Marc Gatto has been named executive vice president for broadcast operations and technology.

Gatto, who will report directly to President Kate O’Brian, comes to Al Jazeera America from World Wrestling Entertainment where he was senior vice president for operations and had direct oversight and management of WWE channel operations. Prior to WWE, Gatto was vice president for broadcast and media operations for Discovery Communications. He also worked at Turner Entertainment Network Operations and CNN.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Ehab Al Shihabi said that Marc brings the precise mix of talents and experience Al Jazeera America will need when it launches. “Marc has had a wide variety of experiences and challenges that have prepared him perfectly to manage broadcast operations and technology for Al Jazeera America,” he said. “Marc’s background makes him the perfect person to lead this critical component to our success.”

According to Gatto, the chance to help Al Jazeera America launch and build an audience is one of the most exciting of his career. “There simply aren’t many opportunities to build a quality news channel from the ground up,” he said. “Al Jazeera is committed to the highest standards reporting, broadcasting, and it’s going to be a pleasure to bring this type of quality to our American viewers.”
