David Shuster Joins Al Jazeera America

NEW YORK - (August 9, 2013) - Al Jazeera America, the new American news channel that will launch on Aug. 20, today announced that former MSNBC journalist David Shuster will join Al Jazeera America as one of the channel’s New York anchors.

“From breaking news to in depth reports, David has exactly the kind of experience we want to bring to all of our broadcasts,” said Marcy McGinnis, Al Jazeera America’s senior vice-president, newsgathering. “David will be an integral member of our New York reporting team when we launch later this month.”

Shuster was most recently was a correspondent at Current TV, where he led the channel’s coverage of 2012 presidential primaries, conventions, debates and election.

Previously, Shuster served as an MSNBC anchor covering prime time breaking news stories and anchored shows including 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and MSNBC Live. He also was an MSNBC correspondent for Hardball with Chris Matthews reporting on breaking news including Hurricane Katrina, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the 2004 and 2008 presidential primaries and elections.

Shuster also worked as a correspondent for Fox News, where he led network coverage of the Clinton investigations including Whitewater, the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Starr Report and the Senate impeachment trial. He also served as a political reporter for an ABC affiliate in Little Rock, Ark. and was a CNN producer and editor.

Shuster received an Emmy Award for investigative reporting and a Bugle Award from the Disabled American Veterans for his work reporting on veterans’ issues.

“I’ve followed Al Jazeera since I covered the Iraq War in 2003 from Doha,” said Shuster. “The organization’s fearless efforts to give a voice to the voiceless have always struck a chord in me. It’s an honor to help carry on that unique mission on an American channel and for an American audience.”
