NEW YORK – (April 15, 2013) – Al Jazeera America, the new American news channel that will launch later this year, announced today that veteran investigative journalist Edward Pound will head the channel’s 16-person investigative reporting unit.
Pound, who will be based out of Al Jazeera America’s Washington D.C. bureau, is a jury-selected Pulitzer Prize finalist and National Headline Award-winning journalist with more than 40 years of experience in uncovering Washington’s biggest scandals.
“Ed is exactly the type of award-winning journalist that we want to be part our organization,” said Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of international operations for Al Jazeera. “Investigative journalism is a critical part of our news programming mix and we are confident that Ed and his team will uncover the important stories that impact Americans.”

Pound previously worked as an investigative reporter for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, US News & World Report and the National Journal. His investigative stories covered a wide range of topics including Iran-Contra, HUD, Abu Ghraib, Jack Abramoff influence peddling, numerous Clinton White House scandals, the International Olympic scandal, among many others. His stories on abuses in the issuance of security clearances at the Defense Department spurred legislative reforms.
Since leaving National Journal in 2009, Pound has worked as director of communications for the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, an independent federal agency that tracks how funds are spent under the economic stimulus program.
