NEW YORK – (July 30, 2013) – Al Jazeera America, the new American news channel that will launch on Aug. 20, today announced that Jonathan Martin will be that bureau’s first correspondent in the channel’s new Nashville bureau.
Al Jazeera America will be a news, lifestyle and investigative journalism channel that will offer the U.S. audience objective, fact-based and in-depth news focused on issues that are important to everyday Americans. The Nashville bureau is one of 12 that the news channel will open in cities across the country.
Marcy McGinnis, Al Jazeera America’s senior vice-president, newsgathering, said that having a bureau in Nashville was an easy decision for Al Jazeera America. “Nashville is a vital cultural, social and financial city in the mid-South,” she said. “We believe that having a team in Nashville will help mean greater and more in-depth news coverage for a very important part of the country.”
Before joining Al Jazeera America, Martin worked as a reporter and anchor for WSMV-TV in Nashville. He also spent several years as a radio and television reporter in Augusta and Atlanta, Georgia. He has earned some of the top accolades in the industry including two Associated Press-Alabama journalism awards. Martin is also a national recipient of the coveted CBS News Ed Bradley Award.
