Five years ago, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg announced an unprecedented $100 million gift to transform education in Newark, N.J., one of the most poverty-stricken and troubled cities in the nation. But today, many say there is little to show for both the promise of radical change and the money, which has been all but spent. In this America Tonight excerpt, Sarah Hoye looks back on the past five years in the life of a struggling school district to explore the impact of the Facebook founder’s gift and why there seems to be little progress in spite of it.
