Living among the dead in the Philippines’ Carreta Cemetery

In the Carreta Cemetery in Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines, the dead find little peace. The cemetery is overflowing,with coffins stored above ground — in some places stacked as many as six high. But for many poor Filipinos, the cemetery is home. Due to lack of affordable housing, thousands of Filipinos live, work, play and eventually grow old among the mausoleums and crypts of cemeteries. In this excerpt from America Tonight, Carsten Stormer spends time with a vibrant community of people who sleep — and make a living — on the graves of the dead
