Thelma Williams has gone without running water for five years. It’s the same situation for many of her friends and relatives living a few hours north of Los Angeles in the town of Fairmead, dominated by large almond farms. The Central Valley of California is populated by a small string of communities, each dominated by a huge agricultural business. In this excerpt from America Tonight, Michael Okwu asks residents what happens to them when these company towns run dry
