Growing up transgender in Texas

For any child, puberty can be an awkward and challenging time. But for transgender kids –going through the physical and emotional changes of a body they don’t identify with can be downright devastating. So when it comes to treating transgender children and teens, the goal of the Children's Medical Center Dallas is simple: step in before puberty hits, and press pause. Doctors here havecreated the Genecis program - GENder Education and Care, Interdisciplinary Support – where they can prescribe puberty blockers to transgender kids just entering adolescence, usually around the age of 12. Since opening its doors, dozens of children and teens have been treated through the Genecis program - the only pediatric clinic of its type in the Southwest.
