Heartened by Pope Francis, gay Catholics seek acceptance in church

Coppola was a parishioner at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church and, until 2012, a regular volunteer. However, after an anonymous letter to the bishop complained about Coppola’s marriage to a man, he says the parish prohibited him from participating in the religious ministry. In this excerpt from America Tonight, Coppola, who attended the White House reception for Pope Francis on Sept. 23, tells Lori Jane Gliha why he hasn’t given up on fighting for equality in his church.
