When heat turns deadly
Forest Jones should have graduated high school this year. Instead, he died two years ago of heat-related injuries after football practice at Locust Grove High School in Georgia.
Our team visited the school, where students still honor Jones’ memory as they prepare for the upcoming football season by running drills. Above, Jones’ father Glen touches a memorial for his son. In the wake of Jones’ death and those of several other players due to heat injuries, the state established new guidelines for football practice to ensure the safety of players in the summer heat.
