As a hip-hop veteran, he has been critical about the current state of the genre.
‘It seems like stupid America celebrates a person that says “yeah I’m a drug dealer, I’m bringing the drugs into the hood”. The reason why hip hop exists is because it started out with good intentions, once all the good intentions left the music became polluted, it became disrespectful it became immature.’metro.co.uk
His sentiments are echoed in many online circles:
ok no one can dispute the fact hip hop is dead, im switching through the channels now and all i see is corny rappers talk about money ? ?sukhdip chhoker

The Felix Organization , a charity that helps "enrich the lives of children who are growing up in the foster care system".
In the statement below, DMC explains why he started the organization.
