For the second consecutive year and the fourth time in seven years, the annual $5 million Mo Ibrahim prize for good governance was not awarded to an African leader. The Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, founded by the Sudanese-born entrepreneur of the same name, is designated for a democratically elected African leader who has stepped down peacefully at the end of his or her term. The organization giving out the award, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, "aims to bring about meaningful change on the (African) continent."
