A proposal to name an intersection in Brooklyn after the late rapper Christopher Wallace, or The Notorious B.I.G., has stirred debate after community board members criticized and shelved the request. Brooklyn resident LeRoy McCarthy submitted a petition with more than 3,500 signatures in favor of co-naming the corner of St. James Place and Fulton Street, the location of Wallace's childhood home, to Christopher Wallace Way.

Board members cited his past drug use, arrests, derogatory references to women in his music, and his weight as reasons to table the petition.
