Many play attendees at the University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss, including approximately 20 members of the football team, reportedly used derogatory gay slurs during a school performance of The Laramie Project. The play is about the brutal murder of 20-year old gay student Matthew Sheppard in 1998. The students, all freshmen who were required by a theater course to view the play, are accused of using the word "fag" and mocking the body types of those on stage.
