Utah woman responds to WIC cuts with the fruits of her labor

Cristen Smith, a resident of Ogden, Utah, heard that many mothers could have their nutritional assistance funds threatened by the government shutdown, and reacted with an act of kindness that quickly gathered momentum in her community and spurred a larger movement.

She wrote a short Facebook post, shown below, offering the pears from a tree in her backyard to any woman in need.
