November 20 marks Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual day of commemoration for those who've experienced transgender discrimination and abuse. Supporters around the world have been using the hashtag #TDOR online to honor men and women who've lost their lives as a result of anti-transgender violence.

Many are calling attention to the case of Islan Nettles (pictured below), the 21-year-old woman from Harlem who was attacked in the streets for being transgender. She died from her injuries three days after the August attack.
