Puerto Ricans march to demand action on island's status
More than 2,000 Puerto Ricans marched through the streets of Old San Juan this week to pressure local government into resolving the island's political status. Last year, while casting their votes on local elections, Puerto Ricans also took part in a historic plebiscite to gather public opinion on whether the island should remain a commonwealth, become a state or declare itself an independent nation. After a year of inaction, demonstrators filled the streets demanding their voices be heard.
