Ohio teacher suspended for alleged racial comment

A Fairfield, Ohio teacher faces the prospect of dismissal after being suspended on December 23 for reportedly making a racially charged comment to an African-American student. On December 3, science teacher Gil Voigt allegedly told the student "we don't need another black president" after the teen said he would like to be president one day.  

Several of the student's classmates at the Fairfield Freshman School confirmed Voigt made the comment, and after a complaint by the student's parents the teen was removed from Voigt's classroom. Two days before Christmas the Fairfield Board of Education suspended Voigt without pay, the first step in terminating a teacher. 

Voigt denied the allegation and shifted blame on the student:
