#OpenEditorial Low-wage service jobs are the fastest growing in U.S. today. What impact will that have on retirement and healthcare?sarah weatherbee
From Donald Brake:
I feel we need to have an honest dialogue on poverty in America; what causes it, why so many more Americans are finding themselves at poverty's doorstep, and the steps we need to take as a country to reverse this trend.plus.google.com
Melissa Cornick:
This proposed survey piece would track the reality of the American middle class in the post-recession period; within which wages have declined below 30%; food stamps has become a norm; and former middle class sharing food banks with the traditional poor. The facts of life now are that more than half of Americans have debts exceeding assets and are on or near the poverty line and have come up with unique ways to hold up. plus.google.com
The student loan economic bubble.Thad Watson
From Jonathan Valdez:
I think the northern border with Canada and illegal immigration has largely been ignored. I think the idea and image of an undocumented immigrant are mostly Mexican which belies the undercurrents and issues that pull people to enter America illegally. What do we really mean by border security in an high tech age?plus.google.com
From Darron Smith:
Looking for this event and thanks for the invite. Would love to discuss the documentary "Dark Girls" about African American female self-hated of their skin tone and transracial adoption. Can white adoptive parents teach black children to love themselves? Situate the discussion within the larger context of global white supremacy and skin-bleaching in Africa.plus.google.com
From Don Barrie:
High, moderate, and low level toxic sites in America. What population lives around the toxic cites? What are their incomes? Who determines the level of toxic sites? What is really safe?plus.google.com
From Fatih Salin:
Construction maintenance in the US.....bridges, buildings, etc. how safe are we? are routine inspections done on time? what kind of material is used?plus.google.com
@ajam More news on NewSpace start up companies, international space programs and general space news beyond America's NASA. #OpenEditorialDaniel Johnson
From Sarah Hank:
New Orleans diaspora 8 years later: How many people left and weren't able to return? Where did they go? Did some people from certain refuge cities return while others were less likely? Why did some return and some not? Has the loss of population made the city more manageable, or is it mainly just a loss of culture? Did the storm actually provide an opportunity to change what wasn't working in the city, or is it still dysfunctional?plus.google.com
The unaddressed needs of girls' health in juvenile detention centers:plus.google.com
From Christian von Preysing Barry:
#OpenEditorial A nuclear power plant in my home state of Wisconsin is closing down. It is 1 of 2 power plants in the state and 1 of about 65 in the country. What does it mean for the regional job market, tax breaks and environmental concerns?plus.google.com
From Eric Pate:
I would like to see emphasis placed on our threatened water resources; specifically the "water wars" in the Southeast. The management of the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin effects millions from sprawling Atlanta to Apalachicola Bay, one of the most productive and important fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico.plus.google.com
#openeditorial @AJAM Megadrought in U.S. Southwest @YaleE360 http://e360.yale.edu/feature/megadrought_in_us_southwest_a_bad_omen_for_forests_globally/2665/#.Ucsy4MNpub8.twitter Good resource for western drought featureKaren Strickholm
Education reform in IndianaDiana Davis Crawford
I would like to see fair reporting that shows a balance of the continual need for high accountability for student success without placing total blame on the educators. A light needs to shine on the tie between true reform and where dollars are being spent. Explore the current ISTEP+ fiasco and its possible impact on teacher evaluations, etc. Speak to some passionate teachers who really do want the best for all students, not just politicians, etc. who seem intent on persecuting educators.Diana Davis Crawford
From Amanda Holmes:
I feel that Al Jazeera America is uniquely positioned as a new major media outlet in the US to really look at the critical and almost completely ignored realities Indigenous Peoples face, located as we are as "Fourth World" nations within an ongoing colonial context that goes largely unrecognized...it is a situation that demands nuanced, intelligent reporting to do justice to the myriad of issues affecting Indigenous communities existing under the radar of a mainstream America that widely believes we are gone or irrelevant, our issues limited to casinos and addiction.plus.google.com
From Melissa Cornick:
A look through the prism of Native American eyes at the adopted son known as “One Who Helps People Throughout the Land." President Obama has visited tribal lands annually, has since hired several Native American staffers, held annual tribal summits and has taken administrative action on multiple long-standing trust and water settlements. The story begins with his adopted extended family on the Crow Indian Reservation.plus.google.com
@ajam #OpenEditorial #School2PrisonPipeline schools are becoming holding cells. Are we creating #ProductiveCitizens OR #LifetimePrisonersJamira Burley

From Laci Barrow:
What effect do changes in church membership across denominations have on American spiritual and political life? 1) Effect on spiritual life: Some churches are seeing a sustained increase in membership, while others are witnessing a steady decline. Pentacostals saw a 4 percent growth in members (just over 3 million total) while Lutheran membership was down nearly 6 percent (just over 4 million total). Why is church membership shrinking for some denominations and increasing in others? The National Council of Churches cites difficulties connecting with youth or the “Facebook and twitter generation.”facebook.com
Daniel Demyan:
The Sequester and how it hurts working people. I have friends who have lost prospective jobs, I'm stressing out over the prospect of federal student loan interest rates doubling. plus.google.com
From Norie Clarke:
Please follow the story of the reform immigration law adding millions of dollars to the militarization of the Mexican American border in trade for a little expansion of the road to citizenship. The reform bill is not worth it.plus.google.com
