#NoShame about mental illness

The producers of Al Jazeera America's "The Stream" pulled together this Storify covering “No Shame Day.” This is just one example of the high quality editorial coverage you can look forward to from "The Stream" team when Al Jazeera America launches in August.

Netizens took to social media on Monday to mark "No Shame Day" – an event mental health advocates used to fight stigma around psychiatric disorders, particularly those affecting U.S. minority communities. According to the Office of Minority Health, some of the reasons minorities are less likely to receive mental health treatment include poverty and lack of access. For instance, less than half of African American adults with a mental illness seek treatment, and less than one-third of their children receive treatment. More statistics on minority mental health can be found here.
