Many U.S.-based Egyptians have been sharing photos and videos online of friends and relatives killed in the recent protests in Egypt.

On Wednesday, Egyptian military troops used force to clear out encampments of supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi. The confrontations lasted more than 12 hours, leading to hundreds of deaths.

President Obama addressed the violence, cancelling planned joint military activities with Egypt and saying that the nature of the U.S. relationship with Egypt cannot continue "when civilians are being killed in the streets and rights are rolled back."
