New Mexico's bilingual jury
A misinterpretation of a New Mexico Supreme Court ruling caused some people on social media to think that the state was changing its laws to freely allow non-English speaking jurors.
Instead, the court statement issued on Monday said that not providing interpreters to jurors in a convicted murderer's case had violated New Mexico's Constitution. The Supreme Court also ruled that Michael Samora, who appealed his murder conviction on the grounds that a potential Spanish-speaking juror was excused from his trial, would not be set free (click here for the full opinion).
