#DVSurvivor raises awareness about domestic violence

It's estimated that one in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. Some of those affected joined a Twitter discussion sparked by a trending hashtag, #DVSurvivor. Domestic violence, or DV, can be any "physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person", according to the US Department of Justice. 

The discussion took off after Twitter user Mikki Kendall (@Karnythia) used the hashtag to comment on a television program covering domestic abuse:
