'Bleach bombs' re-emerge at UT-Austin

University of Texas, Austin (FLICKR/ BOBBI BOWERS)

On Wednesday, August 21, University of Texas student Bryan Davis was reportedly struck in the leg with a balloon filled with bleach as he crossed UT Austin's West Campus. While many similar attacks have occurred since 2012, this is the first incident of the new school year at UT Austin. Since the attacks began, many have speculated that they are meant to proverbially "whiten" students of color. Aside from their alleged racial motivation, the "bleach-bombs" carry the risk of blinding their victims.
