The game has received some criticism online:
Whatever happened to Mario Kart Racing or Sonic the Hedgehog? Shame on Kocurek and Whipple for developing a game that misleads kids into thinking pro-life legislators are the villains and abortions are worthy causes for which to fight.townhall.com
Another video game involving killing: “@1200WOAI: A video game where players try to get an abortion in Texas? http://www.woai.com/pages/michaelboard.html?article=11624245”Courtney Sharp
Abortion, adoption, being a parent isn't a game!!! TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN! http://www.kvue.com/news/state/Video-game-tackling-abortion-laws-ignites-internet-firestorm-222424551.html (h/t @sqwerin)Redness
Joe Pojman, the executive director of the Texas Alliance for Life voiced his concern:
"Abortion's not a game," said Pojman. "It's a very serious matter, and we hope that however this game comes out, that it really addresses all the issues, shows that abortion is not a simple thing and that there are compassionate alternatives to abortion. Right here in Austin there are at least 15 wonderful agencies that provide compassionate alternatives to abortion, including adoption."kvue.com
In an
interview with Persephone Magazine, Allyson Whipple said the game is meant to create "awareness and empathy."
one of the goals of this game is to make people aware of how difficult abortion is, and how certain communities and groups may have an undue burden put on them in an already-difficult situation.persephonemagazine.com
Despite the controversy, the campaign is
close to reaching its fundraising goal of $10,000.
