Cuban musician Robertico Carcassés was banned from performing in state-run music venues for his political messages in a recent concert, generating mixed reactions from the Cuban community. Performing in front of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Havana on Thursday, the artist improvised lyrics calling for presidential elections, equal rights, and an end to the embargo.

The concert took place on the 15-year anniversary of the arrest of five Cuban intelligence agents, known as the Cuban Five. The men were convicted for spying for the Cuban government, although Cuba says they were spying on Miami's Cuban exile community. One of the five has been released, and was attending the concert. Carcassés also called for the release of the remaining four prisoners.
