Supporters of a higher minimum wage rallied outside the mayor and D.C. Council's office today calling for an override to Mayor Vincent Gray's recent veto of the Large Retailers Accountability Act (LRAA). The bill would have guaranteed employees of large retailers, such as Walmart, a minimum wage of $12.50 per hour. Gray said the bill would "cost more than 4,000 district jobs in just the first few years alone."
A divisive D.C. Council will vote today on whether to override the veto. Nine out of 13 council members will need to override the mayor's veto for the LRAA to take effect.
