Sex between teachers and students shouldn't be a crime, writes Betsy Karasik. What do you think? http://wapo.st/12VG8QVPost Opinions
What do *I* think? https://twitter.com/PostOpinions/status/373651029923221504 I think firing two or three @PostOpinions editors would be a good start. #SCUMRobert Stacy McCain
Some were upset about author Betsy Karasik's discussion of Cherice Morales, the victim of the Montana case who later
committed suicide.
My two cents on that WaPo piece? Cherice Morales is dead, Betsy Karasik & the WaPo are linkbaiting on her grave. Sick.Shannon Drury
Cherice Morales's mother attested to the major factor (the rape) in her daughter's suicide. Why do you play dumb about that @PaintsNature?Merry Miss Lissie
Others were disturbed by Karasik's statement that "[not] all sexual conduct between underage students and teachers should necessarily be classified as rape."
Hey, @washingtonpost!! Can you please address why you have someone who wants child rape decriminalized on your payroll? --> Betsy KarasikJoey Two Times
Betsy Karasik & WaPo evidently want to talk about "legitimate rape" some more. #OhGreatMs. Rosenberg
I've been an investigator of child abuse for almost 20 years. I've investigated over three thousand cases of abuse and hundreds of cases of sexual abuse. Many of those cases involved sex abuse of teens by teachers. To say I know a thing or two about Teacher/Student sex and consent is an understatement. That's why the Washington Post Op-Ed penned by Betsy Karasik about Stacey Dean Rambold is just flat out wrong.quadcitypat.blogspot.com
I'm not. THE LAW DOES. RT @PaintsNature: @[me] Are you defining all cases of adult/underage sex as rape? And do you have data on that?Imani ABL
@AngryBlackLady I know the law does. For purpose of discussion where discussing legal parameters, I was asking which definition u were usingB Karasik
The legal def is the only one important in order to protect those who cannot consent from those who should control themselves. @PaintsNatureImani ABL
You still haven't explained why you used a rape case as a hook for your claim. @PaintsNatureImani ABL
@AngryBlackLady I was very saddened by the case and troubled by the concern that the legal process may have played a role in her suicide.B Karasik
The piece was not without its supporters. Reader TheDiz wrote:
Clearly, this is a topic that cannot be discussed rationally, which I think is pretty much the author's point to begin with. The complexity of the issue is apparently beyond the ability of most people to understand or analyze unemotionally. She is not justifying pedophilia or rape. She is pointing out the reality that all interactions of this type are not equal.washingtonpost.com
