California admits first undocumented lawyer to state bar

The California Supreme Court ruled on January 2 that Sergio C. Garcia, an undocumented lawyer who had passed the state's bar exam five years ago but could not practice law due to his immigration status, would be granted admission to the state's bar. The decision comes just months after a new California law changed bar admission requirements for undocumented lawyers.
