A conversation about poor working conditions for adjunct professors erupted online on Tuesday, with many former and current instructors sharing their thoughts and stories using the hashtag #NotYourAdjunctSidekick. The discussion comes in the wake of recent research showing that most adjunct professors work at poverty or near-poverty wages, as well as several high-profile stories detailing homelessness, lack of health insurance, and death among their ranks.

#NotYourAdjunctSidekick, which was started by college composition teacher Nicky Schildkraut, was used to discuss a variety of grievances related to the lives and work of adjunct professors.
