The recent murder of Mexican journalist Gregorio Jimenez de la Cruz has sparked calls for Javier Duarte, the governor of the Mexican state of Veracruz, to resign. Critics say Duarte and local authorities failed to complete a thorough investigation into the reporter's death, despite a recent string of kidnappings and murders in the southern region of the state. Nearly 10 journalists have been murdered in Veracruz since Duarte began his term in 2010.

Many are using the hashtag #HastaQueRenuncieDuarte, or "Until Javier Duarte resigns," to protest Mexico's dangerous media landscape and government inaction to protect journalists.
