Indiana senator tweets frustration over 'Godless' gay marriage provision

Indiana state Sen. Mike Delph held a press conference Monday to address a string of controversial messages he tweeted last week regarding House Joint Resolution 3, a measure which seeks to ban gay marriage in the state. Delph announced he would vote against HJR-3 until the provision barring civil unions was reinserted.

On Thursday, the Indiana Senate decided not to restore the original language of HJR-3, which initially proposed an amendment to the state constitution that would ban both gay marriage and civil unions. On Monday, after Delph's press conference, the state Senate voted 32-17 in favor of the revised measure. With the new language agreed upon, the state legislature delays a statewide vote on the proposed amendment for at least two years.
