Spain paid tribute to the victims of the 2004 Madrid train bombings on Tuesday, holding vigils and using the hashtag #11M to mark the ten-year anniversary since the tragedy occurred.
On March 11, 2004, a series of ten coordinated bombs exploded aboard four trains during the morning rush hour. The attacks killed more than 190 people and injured an estimated 2,000 passengers. Spain's interior minister called it the country's "worst ever terrorist attack."
Eighteen people were convicted of carrying out the bombings, and many Spaniards were outraged by the acquittals and short sentences handed to the defendants.
