Released Alabama journalist calls time in jail 'nightmarish'

In an update to an October 2013 story published by The Stream, Alabama investigative journalist and progressive blogger Roger Shuler was released from Shelby County Jail on March 26 after being held for five months on contempt of court charges and resisting arrest.

Shuler was jailed for refusing to obey a judge's injunction barring him from publishing politically-charged posts involving an alleged affair between Republican Robert Riley Jr. (son of former governor Bob Riley) and lobbyist Liberty Duke. The judge also ordered Shuler to remove any previous posts about Riley and Duke from Shuler's Legal Schnauzer political blog.

On the night of his October arrest, a mugshot showed Shuler with visible injuries.
